I want to tell you a story. Last year my superstar Realtor wife Jennifer helped secure financing options and a rental property for a young couple moving from out of state. In addition, she spent long hours trying to find them a home to buy.

As with many younger inexperienced folks, they wanted everything for nothing. And saw themselves as the center of the universe. Lol, of course, no one reading this was EVER like that when we were in our twenties right? Eventually they became too demanding and disrespectful. She politely suggested they choose another Realtor that could better meet their needs. It happens. No hard feelings. But it was disappointing to have worked so hard trying to help folks and suffer an injustice.

Well, two weeks later they signed a contract for a house that Jennifer had just showed them. A Realtor has rights. Just because a buyer gets stinky doesn’t mean s/he can screw a Realtor out of their commission.

By the way, to any buyers reading this, choose your agent carefully. Work with them for a defined period of time. Don’t tell an agent s/he is YOUR Realtor then turn around a buy a home from another Realtor. Not cool. And if things aren’t working out for some reason, have the courage and professionalism to tell them to their face you no longer want them to represent you.

Back to the story. Jennifer had a procurement cause. I notified the broker. He was stinky at first but then realized she was in the right and eventually the broker did the right thing and backed off.

Jennifer got a big fat check in the mail. It was pretty awesome.

Jennifer and I are not judgmental people and do not hold grudges or harbor un-forgiveness. We prepared our bread, wine and salt home blessing package and dropped it off inside the home before they moved in wishing them prosperity, joy and health.

Good things DO happen to good people.
